Description
Indulge in the rich, decadent flavors of Chocolate French Toast—a delightful twist on the classic breakfast favorite with chocolate-infused custard and a crisp golden finish.
Ingredients
4 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (melted)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 slices of thick bread (preferably brioche or challah)
Butter, for cooking
Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
Fresh berries, for serving (optional)
Maple syrup, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, melted chocolate, vanilla extract, sugar, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a small amount of butter and let it melt to coat the surface.
- Dip each slice of bread into the chocolate mixture, letting it soak briefly on each side.
- Place the soaked slices onto the skillet. Cook for 3–4 minutes on one side until golden, then flip and cook for another 2–3 minutes.
- Continue with all the bread slices, adding more butter as needed.
- Stack the French Toast on a plate. Dust with powdered sugar and top with berries and maple syrup if desired.
Notes
Use brioche or challah for best results due to their rich, soft texture.
Adjust chocolate and sugar levels based on your choice of chocolate type.
Add Nutella, peanut butter, or cream cheese between slices for a stuffed version.
Prepare batter the night before for quick morning cooking.
For dairy-free, substitute plant-based milk, chocolate, and butter.
To avoid sogginess, soak bread just until coated—not too long.
Leftovers can be frozen; reheat in oven or toaster to maintain texture.
