Description

Baked Cinnamon Apple Chips are a simple, naturally sweet snack made with thinly sliced apples and optional cinnamon. Slow baking creates crisp, fruity chips without added sugar or a dehydrator.

Ingredients

2 large apples or 3 small apples

Cinnamon, if desired

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 230°F.
  2. Slice the apples very thinly and evenly so they dry at approximately the same rate.
  3. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on 2 baking sheets lined with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  4. Sprinkle the apple slices with cinnamon, if desired.
  5. Bake for 1 hour.
  6. Remove the baking sheets from the oven, carefully flip the apple slices, and sprinkle the second side with cinnamon.
  7. Return the apples to the oven and bake for another 1 hour.
  8. Turn off the oven but leave the apple slices inside. Allow them to cool and continue drying for at least 30 minutes and up to 2 hours, checking periodically for crispness.
  9. Once completely cooled and crisp, transfer the apple chips to an airtight container.

Notes

Cinnamon is optional and can be omitted for plain apple chips.

Add a pinch of nutmeg, ginger, or apple pie spice for additional warming flavor.

Sweet apple varieties produce sweeter chips, while tart varieties provide a sweet-and-tangy flavor.

Keep the slices consistently thin for even baking and crispness.

Leave the apple peel on if desired; peeling is not necessary.

Cool the chips completely before storing them in an airtight container at room temperature to help preserve their crisp texture.

If the chips soften during storage, briefly warm them in a low oven and allow them to cool completely again.
