Description
Trisha Yearwood’s Apple Dumplings combine tart Granny Smith apples wrapped in buttery crescent rolls with a sweet cinnamon-sugar sauce for a cozy, comforting dessert that’s simple and delicious.
Ingredients
2 Granny Smith apples
1 can (8 oz) crescent rolls
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup Sprite or 7UP
A pinch of ground nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel and core apples, cut each into 4 wedges.
- Separate crescent roll dough into triangles. Place an apple wedge on the wide end of each triangle, roll up starting at the wide end, and pinch to seal. Arrange dumplings in a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Stir in sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until sugar dissolves. Pour evenly over dumplings.
- Gently pour Sprite or 7UP around the edges of the pan, careful not to disturb sugar mixture.
- Sprinkle dumplings with a pinch of nutmeg.
- Bake for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown and apples are tender.
Notes
Use Honeycrisp or Fuji apples for a sweeter flavor.
Add ground cloves or allspice to the sauce for warmth.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for indulgence.
Store leftovers in airtight container in fridge up to 2 days.
Reheat gently in oven or microwave, adding lemon-lime soda to refresh moisture if desired.
Use homemade pie crust or puff pastry instead of crescent rolls, adjusting baking time.
Replace Sprite/7UP with lemon-lime soda or apple juice if unavailable.
Assemble and refrigerate before baking; increase bake time if baking cold.
Apples are tender when pierced easily but not mushy.
Make mini dumplings with smaller apple pieces and dough cuts.
Use gluten-free dough for gluten-free adaptation.
Add chopped pecans or walnuts before baking for crunch.
Ensure apples are dry before wrapping to avoid soggy dough.
Drizzle caramel sauce before serving for extra richness.
Best enjoyed fresh; store and reheat within 2 days.
