Ingredients
1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped (green, red, or a mix)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 cup tomato sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon hot sauce (to taste)
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon oregano
Salt and black pepper, to taste
2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
Cooked rice or grits, for serving
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Mix well to combine the flavors.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, paprika, thyme, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes, or until pink and opaque. Stir occasionally for even cooking.
- Taste and adjust the seasonings as desired, adding more hot sauce or Worcestershire sauce if preferred.
- Remove from heat and serve over rice or grits. Garnish with chopped green onions.
Notes
You can use frozen shrimp, just thaw and pat dry before adding them to the skillet.
To make it spicier, increase the hot sauce or add cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes.
Other vegetables like celery, carrots, or okra can be added for extra texture and flavor.
If you prefer, you can substitute shrimp with other seafood like crab, scallops, or fish, adjusting the cooking time as needed.
