Description
Rice Krispie Treats are a quick, easy, and delicious snack made with Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows, and butter. This simple, classic recipe can be customized with various mix-ins like chocolate, peanut butter, or sprinkles.
Ingredients
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
1 package (10 oz) marshmallows (or 4 cups mini marshmallows)
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent browning.
- Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and combined with the butter.
- If using, add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and stir to combine.
- Remove the pot from heat. Gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir gently until the cereal is evenly coated.
- Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to press it down firmly and evenly.
- Let the treats cool for at least 30 minutes to set.
- Once cooled, cut into squares or rectangles and serve. Store in an airtight container for later.
Notes
For variations, add chocolate chips, peanut butter, or M&Ms to the mixture before pressing it into the pan.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
These treats can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature when ready to eat.
