Description

Rice Krispie Treats are a quick, easy, and delicious snack made with Rice Krispies cereal, marshmallows, and butter. This simple, classic recipe can be customized with various mix-ins like chocolate, peanut butter, or sprinkles.

Ingredients

6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

1 package (10 oz) marshmallows (or 4 cups mini marshmallows)

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with butter or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent browning.
  3. Add the marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and combined with the butter.
  4. If using, add the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and stir to combine.
  5. Remove the pot from heat. Gradually add the Rice Krispies cereal to the melted marshmallow mixture. Stir gently until the cereal is evenly coated.
  6. Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to press it down firmly and evenly.
  7. Let the treats cool for at least 30 minutes to set.
  8. Once cooled, cut into squares or rectangles and serve. Store in an airtight container for later.

Notes

For variations, add chocolate chips, peanut butter, or M&Ms to the mixture before pressing it into the pan.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

These treats can be frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature when ready to eat.
