Description

Onion Beef Fried Rice is a savory and satisfying dish made with tender beef, caramelized onions, and perfectly cooked rice. Tossed in a flavorful soy and sesame sauce, this quick and easy fried rice recipe is customizable, making it ideal for weeknight dinners or gatherings. Add veggies or switch up the protein for even more variety!

Ingredients

½ lb beef, thinly sliced

4 cups cooked rice (preferably day-old)

1 medium onion, sliced

2 garlic cloves, minced

2 eggs, scrambled

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp sesame oil

1 tbsp vegetable oil

1 cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Optional Add-ins:

Peas, carrots, or bell peppers for added veggies

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef:

    • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

    • Cook the beef for 3–4 minutes until browned. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  2. Sauté the Onions & Garlic:

    • In the same pan, add more oil if needed and sauté the sliced onions until caramelized.

    • Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  3. Add Rice:

    • Add the cold, cooked rice to the pan, breaking up any clumps. Stir-fry for about 5 minutes, or until the rice is heated through.

  4. Scramble the Eggs:

    • Push the rice to the side of the pan, crack the eggs into the empty space, and scramble until cooked.

    • Once cooked, mix the eggs into the rice.

  5. Season:

    • Pour soy sauce and sesame oil over the rice and stir to combine.

    • Add the cooked beef back to the pan and stir everything together.

  6. Garnish & Serve:

    • Top the fried rice with fresh green onions and serve hot.

Notes

Veggie Boost: Add peas, carrots, or bell peppers for more color and nutrition.

Spicy Kick: Add sriracha or chili flakes for heat.
