Mini Cheesy Heart Calzones are fun, golden-baked hand pies filled with a rich, creamy blend of cheeses and herbs, shaped into adorable hearts and perfect for parties, gatherings, or a cozy treat.
Ingredients
1 package (16 oz) pizza dough
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup ricotta cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped (optional)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 egg (for egg wash)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness and cut heart shapes using a cutter.
- In a bowl, mix mozzarella, ricotta, Parmesan, garlic powder, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Fold in basil if using.
- Place one heart-shaped dough on the baking sheet, add 1–2 tablespoons of filling in the center, and top with another heart.
- Seal and crimp the edges with a fork.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the calzones, then lightly brush with olive oil.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and puffed.
- Cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Add spinach or mushrooms for a veggie boost.
Swap basil with parsley or Italian seasoning if desired.
Serve with marinara, pesto, or garlic sauce.
Seal edges well to prevent leaking.
