Description

Melopita, also known as Greek Honey Pie, is a creamy ricotta-based dessert, sweetened with honey and flavored with cinnamon, vanilla, and lemon zest. It’s a simple yet indulgent treat.


Ingredients

1 pre-made pie crust (or homemade, if preferred)

2 cups ricotta cheese

1 cup honey

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Zest of 1 lemon

¼ teaspoon salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch pie dish.
  2. If you’re using a store-bought pie crust, place it in the prepared dish. If homemade, roll out dough and fit it into the dish.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, honey, and eggs. Beat until smooth and well blended.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract, cinnamon, lemon zest, and salt until fully incorporated.
  5. Pour the ricotta mixture into the prepared pie crust and evenly distribute.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden brown. The center should be firm but slightly wobbly.
  7. Cool in the pan for 15-20 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  8. Once chilled, slice and serve. Optionally garnish with extra honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon.
