Ingredients
12 slider buns
1 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup marinara sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and heat. Once the oil is hot, crumble the Italian sausage into the skillet. Cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes. Break up the sausage into smaller pieces as it cooks.
- Stir in the marinara sauce, oregano, and garlic powder. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
- While the sausage is simmering, slice the slider buns in half horizontally. Place the bottom halves in a baking dish (9×13-inch works well).
- Spoon the sausage mixture evenly over the bottom halves of the buns.
- Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the sausage mixture. Add as much cheese as you like for a gooey, melty result!
- Place the top halves of the slider buns on top of the cheese layer.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
- Remove from the oven and let the sliders cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, for an added burst of flavor and color.
- Using a sharp knife, slice the sliders into individual portions and serve warm.
Notes
**Add More Veggies**: Try adding sautéed onions, bell peppers, or mushrooms to the sausage mixture for extra flavor and texture.
**Cheese Choices**: If you prefer a different cheese, you can use provolone, cheddar, or a blend of mozzarella and fontina for a unique flavor twist.
**Make It Spicy**: Use spicy Italian sausage or sprinkle some red pepper flakes on top for a bit of heat.
**Gluten-Free Option**: Use gluten-free slider buns to make these sliders gluten-free.
