Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (80% lean)
4 slices of aged Irish cheddar cheese
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon whiskey (optional)
1 clove garlic, minced
Salt and pepper, to taste
4 burger buns (preferably Irish-style)
Lettuce leaves
Tomato slices
Pickles
1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
1 tablespoon mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Patty Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Form Patties: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties slightly larger than the buns.
- Cook the Patties: In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Irish cheddar on top of each patty to melt.
- Toast the Buns: Slice the burger buns in half and toast them in the pan for about 1 minute or until golden brown.
- Assemble the Burgers: On the bottom half of each toasted bun, add a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheddar, a slice of tomato, and pickles. Optionally, spread mayonnaise or mustard on the top bun before placing it on the burger.
- Serve: Plate the burgers and serve with your favorite side dishes such as fries or a salad.
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey for beef.
