Simple to make and loved by both kids and adults, these gum drops are sure to bring some cheer to your day!

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups applesauce
  • 2 ¼ cups sugar
  • 2 boxes (3 oz) lime Jello
  • 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin (such as Knox)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 13×9-inch pan.
  2. Combine applesauce, sugar, lime Jello, and unflavored gelatin in a pan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly.
  4. Boil for 1 minute.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and refrigerate until set, about 3 hours.
  6. Dust a cutting board with sugar. Use a spatula to loosen the sides of the set gum drop mixture and turn it onto the cutting board.
  7. Dust the top of the gum drop mixture with more sugar.
  8. Use a shamrock-shaped cookie cutter to cut out gum drops.
  9. Roll the edges of the gum drops in extra sugar and set them on wax paper for 1 hour to dry out slightly.
  10. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • You can experiment with other flavored gelatin such as orange or cherry for different colors and flavors.
  • Add citric acid or sour sugar for a tangier treat.
  • If you don’t have a shamrock cookie cutter, use any fun shape or cut them into squares for simplicity.
