Description

Learn how to make homemade fluffy bread that’s soft, airy, and golden with this easy-to-follow recipe. Perfect for sandwiches, toast, or as a side to any meal, this versatile recipe uses simple pantry ingredients for bakery-quality results.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 2 ¼ tsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  • Prepare the Dough:
    • Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • Add warm milk, melted butter, and salt. Gradually mix in the flour until a sticky dough forms.
  • Knead the Dough:
    • Transfer the dough to a floured surface. Knead for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Shape the Loaf:
    • Punch down the dough. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Cover loosely and let it rise for 30–45 minutes.
  • Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool and Serve:
    • Let the bread cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • For whole wheat bread, substitute half of the flour with whole wheat flour.
  • To check yeast activity, dissolve it in warm water with sugar and ensure it becomes frothy.
  • Avoid over-proofing to maintain the bread’s fluffy texture.
