Description

Discover the deliciously comforting Hearty Cheeseburger Pie, combining savory beef, melty Cheddar cheese, and a soft, golden topping. This easy-to-make, one-dish meal brings the flavors of a classic cheeseburger in a pie form. Perfect for family dinners or cozy gatherings, it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Base Filling:

1 large onion, finely chopped (approximately 1 cup)

450 grams ground beef

0.5 teaspoon salt

Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Garlic powder, to taste (optional)

Topping and Batter:

120 grams grated Cheddar cheese (about 1 cup)

65 grams Bisquick baking mix or all-purpose flour (about 0.5 cup)

240 millilitres whole milk (1 cup)

2 large eggs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C. Lightly grease a 23 cm glass pie dish with vegetable oil.

  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, warm a small amount of oil. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.

  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into small pieces. Cook until fully browned, approximately 10 minutes. Drain excess fat.

  4. Season the cooked beef mixture with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and optional garlic powder. Stir to ensure even distribution of seasoning.

  5. Evenly spread the beef and onion mixture into the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle grated Cheddar cheese uniformly over the meat.

  6. In a mixing bowl, whisk together Bisquick mix (or all-purpose flour), whole milk, and eggs until the batter is smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the beef and cheese layers.

  7. Transfer the dish to the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Allow to cool briefly before slicing. Serve warm.

Notes

Vegetarian Version: Replace the ground beef with a plant-based alternative or lentils for a vegetarian-friendly version.

Cheese Variety: Use different cheeses like Monterey Jack, mozzarella, or sharp white Cheddar to change the flavor.

Add Veggies: Add diced bell peppers, mushrooms, or spinach for extra nutrition.

Spicy Option: Add diced jalapeños or red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
