Ingredients
Base Filling:
1 large onion, finely chopped (approximately 1 cup)
450 grams ground beef
0.5 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste (optional)
Topping and Batter:
120 grams grated Cheddar cheese (about 1 cup)
65 grams Bisquick baking mix or all-purpose flour (about 0.5 cup)
240 millilitres whole milk (1 cup)
2 large eggs
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Lightly grease a 23 cm glass pie dish with vegetable oil.
-
In a large skillet over medium heat, warm a small amount of oil. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.
-
Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into small pieces. Cook until fully browned, approximately 10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
-
Season the cooked beef mixture with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and optional garlic powder. Stir to ensure even distribution of seasoning.
-
Evenly spread the beef and onion mixture into the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle grated Cheddar cheese uniformly over the meat.
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together Bisquick mix (or all-purpose flour), whole milk, and eggs until the batter is smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the beef and cheese layers.
-
Transfer the dish to the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Allow to cool briefly before slicing. Serve warm.
