Ingredients
1 pound ground beef
¼ cup bread crumbs
1 large egg
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon seasoned salt (for patties)
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon garlic powder
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup thinly sliced onion
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon cooking sherry
½ teaspoon seasoned salt (for gravy)
Instructions
- Gather all ingredients so they are ready to use.
- In a bowl, gently mix ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 8 evenly sized patties.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add patties and sliced onions to the skillet and cook about 4 minutes per side until patties are browned.
- Remove patties from the skillet and set aside, leaving onions in the pan.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir until evenly coated.
- Slowly pour in beef broth and cooking sherry, stirring constantly to form a smooth gravy.
- Season gravy with seasoned salt and simmer until thickened.
- Return patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them.
- Cover and simmer gently for about 15 minutes, until patties are fully cooked and tender.
- Serve hot with onions and gravy spooned on top.
Notes
Use 80/20 ground beef for the juiciest patties.
Avoid overmixing the meat to keep patties tender.
Mushrooms can be added with the onions for extra flavor.
Add a splash of broth when reheating to loosen the gravy.
