Description

The Halloumi Burger is a crispy, creamy vegetarian alternative to a classic beef burger, featuring halloumi cheese, fresh veggies, and tangy sauces in a soft burger bun.

Ingredients

1 block halloumi cheese (about 78 ounces)

4 burger buns (gluten-free if needed)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 cup lettuce leaves (romaine, arugula, or spinach)

1 medium tomato, sliced

1/2 red onion, thinly sliced

1/4 cup tzatziki sauce (or hummus, if preferred)

Sliced avocado (optional)

Pickles (optional)

Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the halloumi cheese into 1/2-inch thick slices.
  2. In a frying pan or skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the halloumi slices and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Toast the burger buns until golden brown, either in a toaster or on a pan.
  4. Spread tzatziki (or hummus) on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add lettuce, tomato, and red onion slices.
  5. Place the crispy halloumi on top of the veggies. Optionally, add avocado, pickles, or hot sauce for extra flavor.
  6. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

For a heartier version, add grilled vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, or mushrooms.

Use a dairy-free cheese substitute to make this recipe vegan-friendly.

Try adding chili flakes or jalapeños for a spicy version of the burger.

Substitute the tzatziki with guacamole, aioli, or spicy mayo for a different twist.
