Description

Gory Shepherd’s Pie is a hearty, comforting casserole made with savory ground meat, vegetables, and a creamy mashed potato topping. Baked until golden and bubbly, it’s a cozy dish with a festive twist that’s perfect for family dinners or Halloween gatherings.


Ingredients

1 lb ground beef or lamb

1 onion, chopped

2 carrots, diced

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 cup frozen peas

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 cups mashed potatoes

1 cup shredded cheese (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or lamb over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion, carrots, and garlic. Cook 5–7 minutes until vegetables are tender.
  4. Stir in peas, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Spread the meat mixture evenly into a baking dish.
  6. Top with mashed potatoes, spreading to cover completely. Sprinkle cheese on top if using.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
  8. Cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

Make a vegetarian version using lentils or mushrooms instead of meat.

Add thyme, rosemary, or parsley for extra flavor.

Spice it up with red pepper flakes or hot sauce.
