Description

These Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes feature halal seasoned beef, sautéed vegetables, and melted provolone piled onto buttery toasted brioche buns. They deliver bold, cheesy comfort in a quick and satisfying sandwich.

Ingredients

450g halal lean ground beef

30g butter

1 small yellow onion, diced

1 small green bell pepper, diced

230g brown mushrooms, minced

30g ketchup

240ml halal beef broth

1 tablespoon cornstarch

Salt and pepper to taste

225g provolone cheese (made with microbial rennet), chopped or shredded

6 brioche hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and brown the halal lean ground beef, breaking it apart as it cooks. Once fully browned, remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, melt the butter and sauté the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced mushrooms until softened and lightly browned.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the halal beef broth, cornstarch, ketchup, salt, and pepper. Pour the mixture into the vegetables and simmer until thickened into a rich sauce.
  4. Return the cooked beef to the pan and stir thoroughly so the meat absorbs the sauce.
  5. Turn off the heat and stir in the provolone cheese, allowing it to melt completely into a creamy filling.
  6. Butter and toast the brioche buns until golden and slightly crisp.
  7. Generously spoon the cheesy beef mixture onto the toasted buns and serve warm.

Notes

Substitute mozzarella or white American cheese for a different flavor profile.

Add sliced jalapeños or red pepper flakes for extra heat.

Store the beef mixture separately from the buns in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Freeze the cooled filling in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months and thaw overnight before reheating.

Toast buns well and assemble just before serving to prevent sogginess.
