Ingredients
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup heavy cream
3/4 cup grated Asiago cheese
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Season both sides of the chicken breasts with garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken breasts and sear for 5-6 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add butter and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for about 1 minute to create a roux.
- Gradually pour in the chicken broth, whisking to avoid lumps. Let the sauce simmer for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and grated Asiago cheese, mixing until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth. Add dried thyme, if desired.
- Return the chicken breasts to the skillet and spoon the sauce over the top. Let the dish simmer for 3-5 minutes, or until the chicken is heated through and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately with mashed potatoes, pasta, or rice.
Notes
Substitute the Asiago cheese with Parmesan, Gruyère, or mozzarella for a different flavor.
Bone-in chicken can be used, but increase cooking time.
For a vegan version, replace the chicken with tofu or tempeh and use dairy-free cream and cheese.
Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a spicy variation.
For a lower-carb option, serve with cauliflower rice or zucchini noodles.
