Description

Furikake Crispix Mix is a flavorful, savory snack that combines the light, crispy texture of puffed rice cereal with the rich umami flavor of Japanese furikake seasoning. It’s customizable and perfect for snacking at home or on the go.

Ingredients

3 cups puffed rice cereal

2 tablespoons furikake seasoning

2 tablespoons butter or neutral oil (vegetable or canola oil)

1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari

1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Spicy sriracha powder or chili flakes (optional, to taste)

1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey (optional, for sweet and savory variations)

1/4 cup toasted almonds or pecans (optional, chopped, for nutty crunch)

Instructions

  1. Gather your puffed rice cereal, furikake seasoning, butter or oil, and soy sauce. Measure them out and have everything ready.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter or heat the neutral oil until hot but not smoking.
  3. Pour in the soy sauce and stir to combine. Add the furikake seasoning and mix well to release its flavor.
  4. Fold in the puffed rice cereal, stirring continuously to coat every piece without crushing it.
  5. Toast the mix for 3-5 minutes, stirring often, until lightly toasted and fragrant. Remove from heat and cool on a flat surface.

Notes

This mix can be made spicy, sweet, or nutty by adding sriracha powder, maple syrup, or toasted nuts respectively.

For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce.

Store the mix in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can freeze it for up to one month.

Let the mix cool completely to keep its crunchiness.
