Florida Shrimp Pie is a delightful coastal comfort food combining fresh shrimp, sautéed vegetables, and a creamy filling in a golden pie crust. It’s a rich, flavorful dish that captures the essence of coastal cuisine, perfect for a special occasion or weeknight dinner.
Ingredients
1 pre-made pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
1 pound fresh shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
1 cup heavy cream
2 large eggs
1 cup diced bell peppers (red and green)
1 cup chopped green onions
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while you prepare the pie.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil. Sauté the bell peppers and garlic for 3-5 minutes until soft. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, sautéed bell peppers, garlic, green onions, salt, pepper, Old Bay seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice. Stir until well mixed.
- In another bowl, whisk together the heavy cream and eggs. Fold the shrimp and vegetable mixture into the egg mixture, ensuring everything is evenly combined.
- Place the pre-made pie crust into a pie dish. Pour the shrimp and filling mixture into the crust, ensuring it’s evenly distributed.
- If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top for a creamy, melty finish.
- Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
- Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
- If desired, garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
If using frozen shrimp, be sure to thaw them completely and pat them dry before adding to the filling.
You can prepare the pie up to 1 day ahead, refrigerate it, and bake it when ready to serve.
Substitute the pie crust with a gluten-free one if needed.
Feel free to add other vegetables like spinach or mushrooms to the filling for extra flavor.
If you prefer a lighter version, omit the cheese from the topping.
