Description

A savory homemade loaf made with tomato-basil spaghetti sauce, Parmesan cheese, and bread flour. This fragrant bread is soft yet hearty, perfect for pairing with pasta, soups, or turning into sandwiches.

Ingredients

2 cups tomato-basil flavored spaghetti sauce (warmed to 120–130°F)

2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

3 to 4 cups bread flour

1 (0.25 oz/7g) package or 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Warm the tomato-basil spaghetti sauce to 120–130°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups bread flour, yeast, and Parmesan cheese.
  3. Stir in the warm sauce. Add more flour as needed until a soft dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough, then roll or pat into a 14×7-inch rectangle. Roll up tightly from the shorter side, pinching edges and tapering ends to seal.
  7. Transfer to a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise until an indentation remains when touched.
  8. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 190°F.
  10. Remove from pan, cool on a wire rack, slice, and serve.

Notes

Add garlic powder to the flour for extra flavor.

Sprinkle mozzarella on top before baking for a cheesy crust.

Mix in chopped sun-dried tomatoes or sliced olives for added texture.

Brush the loaf with melted butter after baking for a softer crust.

Dough can also be shaped into rolls and baked for 15–18 minutes.
