This Creamy Tomato Pasta combines a velvety tomato sauce with pasta for a comforting and delicious meal. Enhanced with garlic, basil, and Parmesan cheese, this quick dish is perfect for weeknights or special occasions.
Ingredients
For the Creamy Tomato Sauce:

1 lb linguine pasta (or any pasta of your choice)

1 tablespoon neutral oil

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 small yellow onion, finely diced

1 chicken breast, sliced into thin strips (optional)

2 garlic cloves, minced

28 oz tomatoes (fresh or canned, diced or roughly chopped)

1/2 teaspoon dried basil (or 5–7 fresh basil leaves)

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Additional kosher salt, to taste
To Serve:
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
2–3 tablespoons chopped chives
Instructions
- Cook the Chicken (if using): Heat butter and oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the sliced chicken breast for about 4 minutes until browned. Set aside.
- Sauté the Onions and Garlic: Add onions to the pan and cook until translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Cook the Tomatoes: Add diced tomatoes and dried basil. Cook for 10 minutes until the tomatoes break down. Add cream, stir, and cook for another 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- Cook the Pasta: Boil salted water, cook pasta as per package instructions, then drain.
- Combine the Pasta and Sauce: Add the pasta and cooked chicken (if using) into the sauce. Toss until the pasta is fully coated.
- Serve: Transfer to a serving platter and top with grated Parmesan cheese and chopped chives. Serve immediately!
Notes
For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or coconut cream.
Vegetarians can skip the chicken and add extra vegetables like spinach or bell peppers.
Make this dish spicier by adding red pepper flakes or jalapeños to the sauce.
