Ingredients
- 3 ¼ to 3 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 envelopes (4 ½ tsp) rapid rise yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup + 2 tbsp milk
- ¼ cup butter
- 3 egg yolks
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
- ½ cup strawberry jam (or preferred jelly)
Instructions
Step 1: Make the Dough
- In a large bowl, combine 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt.
- Heat milk and butter in a saucepan until warm (120°F-130°F). Add to the flour mixture along with egg yolks.
- Beat for 2 minutes on low speed using a stand mixer.
- Gradually add more flour, ¼ cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
- Knead on a lightly floured surface for 4-6 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
Step 2: Shape the Donuts
- Roll dough into a 12-inch circle, about ½-inch thick.
- Cut out 3-inch rounds using a cookie cutter and place them on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Step 3: Fry the Donuts
- Heat at least 2 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350°F.
- Fry 2-3 donuts at a time, turning occasionally, until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes).
- Drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Coat and Fill
- Toss warm donuts in granulated sugar to coat.
- Fill a pastry bag with jam and insert about 1-2 tablespoons into each donut.
Step 5: Serve and Enjoy
Let the donuts cool slightly and enjoy fresh!
Notes
- Experiment with different fillings like raspberry jam, custard, or chocolate.
- For a flavor twist, toss the donuts in cinnamon sugar instead of plain sugar.
- Donuts taste best fresh but can be stored or frozen for later enjoyment.
