Description

Classic Fried Chicken Momos are crispy dumplings filled with juicy chicken, steamed, and then deep-fried to golden perfection. A beloved South Asian street food, they are served hot with spicy chutney and make an excellent snack, appetizer, or main dish.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tbsp baking powder

Salt, to taste

Water, as needed

1 cup chopped chicken

1/2 cup diced onion

1 tbsp minced garlic

1/2 tbsp light soy sauce

1/4 tbsp vinegar

1/4 tbsp ground black pepper

Extra salt, as needed

2 cups refined oil

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add water and knead into a stiff dough. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan. Sauté onions and garlic until fragrant. Add chopped chicken and cook until almost done. Stir in soy sauce, vinegar, black pepper, and salt. Let the filling cool.
  3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each into thin circles. Place a spoonful of filling in the center, moisten edges with water, and fold into dumplings. Seal tightly.
  4. Steam the momos in a lined steamer for about 10 minutes until the dough turns translucent and the filling is cooked through.
  5. Heat oil in a wok or deep pan. Deep-fry the steamed momos until golden brown and crisp. Drain on a paper towel and serve hot with chutney.

Notes

You can use store-bought dumpling wrappers instead of homemade dough to save time.

Always steam momos before frying to ensure the filling cooks properly.

Seal edges tightly to prevent bursting during frying.

For a healthier option, skip frying and enjoy steamed momos.

Momos can be frozen before cooking for up to 1 month.
