Description

Cheddar Bay Biscuit Pizza Crust is a flavorful twist on traditional pizza dough, infused with sharp cheddar cheese, garlic butter, and herbs, making it a delicious and buttery base for your favorite pizza toppings.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

6 tablespoons cold butter, cubed

1½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

¾ cup buttermilk

¼ cup sour cream

4 tablespoons butter, softened

3 garlic cloves, minced

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

¼ teaspoon salt

Pizza sauce (for topping)

Mozzarella cheese (for topping)

Your favorite pizza toppings

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F and grease a 12-inch pizza pan thoroughly.
  2. Prepare the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.
  3. Cut in the butter: Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or fork to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add the cheese: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, distributing it evenly throughout the flour mixture.
  5. Form the dough: Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the buttermilk and sour cream. Gently mix until the dough begins to form.
  6. Knead the dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently 3-4 times until smooth.
  7. Roll out the dough: Roll or press the dough into a 12-inch circle and transfer it to the prepared pizza pan.
  8. Prepare the garlic butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  9. Pre-bake the crust: Brush half of the garlic butter onto the crust and poke holes in it with a fork. Pre-bake the crust in the oven for 12-15 minutes, or until it is lightly golden and set but not fully cooked.
  10. Add the toppings: Remove the crust from the oven, brush it with the remaining garlic butter, and add your desired pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and favorite toppings.
  11. Bake the pizza: Return the pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.
  12. Finish and serve: Brush the edges of the crust with any remaining garlic butter and let the pizza cool for 3-5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

For an extra crispy crust, preheat a pizza stone in the oven and place the pizza directly on it for baking.

To make the pizza spicy, add red pepper flakes, jalapeños, or spicy sausage as toppings.

If you don’t have buttermilk, use regular milk mixed with a tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice.

For mini pizzas, divide the dough into smaller portions and adjust the baking time accordingly.
