Description

Cake Mix Toffee Bars are a quick and easy dessert featuring a rich cake mix base topped with sweetened condensed milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and crunchy toffee bits. This irresistible treat is perfect for any occasion and can be customized to suit your preferences.

Ingredients

1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup toffee bits (such as Heath)

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Stir until the ingredients are blended and a thick batter forms.
  3. Press about 2/3 of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan to create the base layer. The remaining batter will be used for the topping.
  4. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and toffee bits evenly over the base layer. If you’re using nuts, add them on top as well.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the chocolate and toffee layers.
  6. Crumble the remaining batter over the condensed milk layer by breaking it into small pieces for an even topping.
  7. Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. Keep an eye on it, as baking times can vary.
  8. Once done, remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, cut into 15 bars.
  9. Enjoy these delightful toffee bars warm or at room temperature! They can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.

Notes

Add Nuts: You can add pecans or walnuts for an extra crunch and flavor.

Vegan Option: Use vegan cake mix, dairy-free butter, and sweetened condensed coconut milk for a vegan version.

Different Chips: Swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips for milk chocolate chips or even white chocolate chips for a different flavor.
