Cake Mix Toffee Bars are a quick and easy dessert featuring a rich cake mix base topped with sweetened condensed milk, semi-sweet chocolate chips, and crunchy toffee bits. This irresistible treat is perfect for any occasion and can be customized to suit your preferences.
Ingredients
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup toffee bits (such as Heath)
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, melted butter, and egg. Stir until the ingredients are blended and a thick batter forms.
- Press about 2/3 of the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan to create the base layer. The remaining batter will be used for the topping.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips and toffee bits evenly over the base layer. If you’re using nuts, add them on top as well.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the chocolate and toffee layers.
- Crumble the remaining batter over the condensed milk layer by breaking it into small pieces for an even topping.
- Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set. Keep an eye on it, as baking times can vary.
- Once done, remove the pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely in the pan. Once cooled, cut into 15 bars.
- Enjoy these delightful toffee bars warm or at room temperature! They can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
Notes
Add Nuts: You can add pecans or walnuts for an extra crunch and flavor.
Vegan Option: Use vegan cake mix, dairy-free butter, and sweetened condensed coconut milk for a vegan version.
Different Chips: Swap the semi-sweet chocolate chips for milk chocolate chips or even white chocolate chips for a different flavor.
