Description

Banana Bread Donuts combine the rich, comforting flavor of banana bread with the fun of donuts. Baked, not fried, they are a healthier, delicious treat perfect for any time of day.

Ingredients

2 ripe bananas

1 cup all-purpose flour

½ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

¼ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 large egg

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with cooking spray or oil, ensuring each cavity is well-coated.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the granulated sugar to the mashed bananas and mix until combined. Stir in the egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet banana mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. If desired, fold in chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
  7. Transfer the donut batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner cut off. Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about halfway.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. Optional: Once cooled, glaze or dust with powdered sugar for a sweet finishing touch.

Notes

Customize with add-ins like walnuts, pecans, or chocolate chips.

Drizzle a simple glaze over the donuts for extra sweetness.

Experiment with spices like nutmeg or ginger to create different flavors.

Store leftover donuts at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
