Description
Banana Bread Donuts combine the rich, comforting flavor of banana bread with the fun of donuts. Baked, not fried, they are a healthier, delicious treat perfect for any time of day.
Ingredients
2 ripe bananas
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 large egg
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with cooking spray or oil, ensuring each cavity is well-coated.
- In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth and creamy.
- Add the granulated sugar to the mashed bananas and mix until combined. Stir in the egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet banana mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- If desired, fold in chopped nuts or chocolate chips.
- Transfer the donut batter into a piping bag or a zip-top bag with the corner cut off. Pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about halfway.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Optional: Once cooled, glaze or dust with powdered sugar for a sweet finishing touch.
Notes
Customize with add-ins like walnuts, pecans, or chocolate chips.
Drizzle a simple glaze over the donuts for extra sweetness.
Experiment with spices like nutmeg or ginger to create different flavors.
Store leftover donuts at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
