Description

These Apple Cinnamon Toaster Strudels are a homemade, flaky, and delicious twist on the classic store-bought version. Filled with a warm apple-cinnamon filling and topped with a simple glaze, these strudels are the perfect breakfast or snack. Ready in just 45 minutes, they’re quick, customizable, and sure to impress!

Ingredients

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

1 apple, peeled and finely chopped

2 tablespoons brown sugar

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon cornstarch

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 egg (for egg wash)

¼ cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon milk

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Make the filling: In a saucepan, combine the chopped apple, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes until the apples soften and the mixture thickens. Let it cool.

  • Prepare the pastry: Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 6 equal rectangles.

  • Assemble the strudels: Spoon a generous amount of the cooled apple filling onto three of the rectangles, leaving a small border around the edges. Place the remaining rectangles on top and press the edges with a fork to seal.

  • Egg wash: Brush the tops of the strudels with the beaten egg.

  • Bake: Place the strudels on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.

  • Make the glaze: While the strudels bake, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.

  • Glaze and serve: Let the strudels cool slightly, then drizzle with the glaze before serving.

Notes

Nutty: Add chopped walnuts or pecans to the filling for added crunch.

Extra spice: Add a pinch of nutmeg or cloves to the apple filling for extra warmth and flavor.

Glaze options: Swap the vanilla glaze for a cream cheese glaze or simply dust with cinnamon sugar.
