Description

A bright, fresh homemade cranberry sauce made with bursting cranberries, sugar, and a hint of orange. Perfectly sweet-tart, thick, and vibrant, this classic sauce comes together quickly and pairs beautifully with turkey and holiday meals.

Ingredients

340g fresh cranberries

200g granulated sugar

240ml water

1 orange, zested and juiced

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries under cold water and drain well.
  2. Add the cranberries, sugar, water, and orange zest to a medium saucepan.
  3. Place over medium heat and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves.
  4. Reduce heat to a gentle simmer and cook for 10–15 minutes, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the fresh orange juice.
  6. Allow the sauce to cool; it will continue to thicken as it sets.
  7. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

The sauce thickens naturally as it cools due to cranberry pectin.

Adjust sugar to taste for a more tart or sweet sauce.

Optional additions include a cinnamon stick or splash of vanilla.

Frozen cranberries can be used without thawing.
